That school is horrible.
I have so many more things I could say about this horrible school, but the fact of it all is that it isn't so much the students, yes they do messed up things or slip up but it is ultimately the Staff, yes their are some Teachers who means well but haven't had a great impact on my life as of the school I transferred to which is Comstock Compass High School. If you want a devoted team members who cares for your child future then go their if they'd need to catch up on credits... That school changed my life, seriously. Loy Norrix, it is filled with staff members who brags that this job is only that a job to make money, not the childs future, some staff members would allow you to skip right beside them or near them. They'll talk about you to fit in with the 'cool kids' I was battling with my weight issue and had been extremely self-conscious about it that I soon formed an eating disorder to were I'd starve myself. A security guard joke about my weight to other students and their on out it has been a thorn in my side.
My name is Amber McFerrin, I am 20 years old and use to attend Loy Norrix. I still have nightmares about that school, it was that bad. I have advice for the parents considering sending their child or children their and that is be their voice, that means you will have to stay on that school ass if you want change to be done if your child is going through bullying because that school won't move at all.
Just be prepared is all I'm saying.
I've been a student here until the 11th grade that was when I decided to switch school's. Loy Norrix isn't as it seems, If I could talk to someone who cared about getting the truth out about this terrible school, I would in a heartbeat. Not only are there obligations of staff members hooking up with their students (true, I new someone hooking up with a security guard and gotten pregnant by him) the Teachers picking with students they deemed not worthy of teaching (I got called a dog, barked at, kicked out of class due to wearing jeans that are leggings, I honestly forgotten the name and I got kicked out for standing up for myself and friend which we were being bullied constantly in front of Teachers.) I have been told to toughen up when I went to the teacher asking to be moved to another seat or to help me with a group of older kids that were bullying me constantly. I've been told that I have been skipping school by the security guard who works the front desk all the time, she even made it her mission to stop me in front of everyone to check to see if I have my ID even went so far as to allow other people in school before me when they'd had their friend's ID on or non at all.
The worse was Gym class, I was mixed in with all ages and just hated it... It was as if I was the mocker of everything. Worse experience ever. It gotten so bad with the bullying that I skipped classes, hid underneath the staircase near the door, I use to cut myself there, cry and just think about ending my life in a way that people would finally see what they did to me was wrong, people I mean the staff members and students at the time. The security guards would see me here doing these things and wouldn't say or do anything, I could literally have just finished slitting my wrists and the few who walked passed would look and keep moving or smile at me.
All they did for me was sit me down, I talked to them with my Mom about everything I've went through (bullying) and they'd talk a good game but only did was talk to the bully and that's all. Nothing more and nothing less. It only added fuel to the fire in my case. It gotten to the point even the Principal at that school asked me if I was an "troubled child?" It stills upsets me.
I loved Nirrix, and had a couple of great teacher/mentors who encouraged me and helped to boost my confidence and self esteem. Teachers respect honest effort a lot more than gifted aptitude. We get out what we put into every experience and endeavor in life, rather learning, working, leisure or relationships. We need to choose our mentors and out friends, not allow them to choose us. I've had a few lousy teachers throughout my education, and some really great ones, too. As with everything, attitude is half the battle. Some of the reviews I've read here reflect a poor attitude, both by students and parents, and half of what we learn comes from home. Kids need to be taught and encouraged at home to get the most they can from their experiences, instead of just getting by or getting through them. Life is life and people are human, so chronic complainers will always find something to complain about. Modeling that attitude and behavior to our children sabatages every area of their lives.
My American high school
Pretty Dank, I have 0 Complaints
I am in my freshman year, and I have loved going here. It is so much better than middle school. The teachers are kind, patient, and helpful. There are so many clubs you can join to truly make high school enjoyable.
