Two experiences in last 4 months:
I don't know his circumstances, and we all have bad days, and as for the uneducated associate, who knows..we have all had to learn our jobs at some point, somehow... Maybe these were oddball experiences. I am not saying I won't go back, but I'm not exactly planning a visit anytime soon, either.
This last time, I left with what I wanted, and the cashier was really nice even offering some additional, helpful information. However, the beginning of the shopping experience was less than stellar.
Had such an attitude from an employee that I asked for another employee to wait on me. I normally #have good service at Office Max. This was the first time I had been at this particular store. Disappointing to say the least.
When I arrived at the store they were out of the item needed but a store associate offered to allow me to purchase 2 items for the discounted price of the double item. He continued to assist me in my shopping and I was able to purchase everything I needed and was checked out in record time. Best experience!
I went back to him, showed him "their website" (and how it was linked to Google Shopping). As soon as he actually looked at the name/picture, he told someone to take me to "Aisle [6]". He didn't even need the SKU, once he actually looked at it, he knew right where it was! That should have happened in the beginning.
Cashiers were very friendly and they had some great back to school sales going on. I needed a yardstick and was able to purchase one here.
The tags had inconsistent information so I couldn't compare printer to printer, and shelf tag info didn't match the printer box information. The associate was nice, but very, very uninformed, and we spent way too much time trying to sort things out. I did not feel confident in purchasing, so finally left and drove all the way to Best Buy, and like magic, bought a printer and was home all in less time than I spent at Office Depot/Office Max trying to decipher what was what.
I showed a manager the picture, name, and description of an item that Google Shopping said was in stock at their location.
It shouldn't matter how item information is communicated--any good CSR or manager should help the customer find what they are looking for. Period.
Verbally, I would have been able to only offer a fraction of the information I showed him, especially since I didn't know what the item was called. Finally, I walked away, then decided to click order online, and was taken to "their" website, which showed the SKU. Yay!
He repeatedly said "that's not our website" and went back to what he was doing without looking at the picture or name. ?!
During the first, the only information they could give me about printers was what was on the shelf tag, and I could read that myself.
About what you expect. Big store, overpriced things when it comes to notebooks and paperclips. But great selection of planners and if you want stylish patterns for regular office supplies and are willing to pay almost double for it...this is your place. I was greeted at the door and checked on 1x while shopping. Both nice:)
